| Note 1: | 25 Jul 1870 The crushing machinery here is a water wheel, driven by a bRoad race out of the river. It is an undershot wheel, sixteen feet in diameter, and drives six head of stamps in one box, and will average forty tons u week. It has been up about six months, and has crushed 4OO tons for an average of l6 dwt, charging 10s 6d a ton. It works with a Chilian basin, having a double discharge from the battery, and rectangular shoots and ripples from the basin. This machine belongs to McArthur and Co., as does a steam crushing mill on the opposite bank of the river. (001) Pg.3, dtd 25 Jul 1870 |
