| Note 1: | This Battery had several owners over its life time which saw the sites development: 1871 - PRICE Jun 1871 - Road down to the Battery site completed, work being done on constructing dams an beds for machinery and buildings. Oct 1871 - Position of the battery is questionable due to lack of water, only those companies above the Battery can use the facilities as companies below the site cannot get quartz up to the site due to inaccessible terrain. Dec 1871 - Work on the battery site completed but the dam is not holding water. 1872 - Seren PETERSEN Seren Petersen acquired the Battery in early 1872 May 1872 - A prospectus was issued by E.N. Emmett for the Gigantic Quartz Crushing Company in which it stated that S. Petersen was to be paid £2500.0.0 for "his excellent quartz crushing machinery, his machinery site of two acres, upon which it is erected, and his right to all the water-shed of Oakey and Nuggetty Creeks". This new company proposed by Emmett must not have proceeeded as in the second half of the year Petersens name was used constantly to describe the Battery in Nuggetty Gully Aug 1872 - Petersens name was also mentioned in relation to the Hawkins Hill Crushing Company - and the continuing work being done on dams, construction of a tramway, etc., Oct 1872 - Hawkins Hill Crushing Company - machinery and tramway to Beyers and Holtermanns Claim nearing completion. May 1873 - Hawkins Hill Quartz Crushing Company - plant now ready for use. Feb 1874 - Hawkins Hill Quartz Crushing Company - extension of the tramway up to Fischer and Beards Claim. (653) |
